The role of the teacher is to "follow the child," to be an awakener, an observer and a listener. It is the teacher's role to connect each child with the materials in the environment so that the child can "teach" themself by working hands-on with an activity. In this way the teachers serve as guides to the children, encouraging them to develop their own desires and natural skills for learning.
The Montessori classroom is rich in positive experiences and materials designed to give children a sense of accomplishment and independence. Each material or "work" allows the children to discover, correct and learn. Follow this link if you would like to read more information on the Montessori Environment.
Christianity is an integral part of our program. Christian values and morals are taught when situations present themselves, such as conflict resolution and the need to help a friend. Individual and group lessons are given on biblical stories, familiarizing the children with the Bible. Prayer is used as a way to give God praise, thanks, and to ask for insight and forgiveness. Our desire is to teach God's good news, understandable to children, in a safe, loving Montessori community.
